Times have changed, but baby gifts still remain fun to purchase and different segments of the population tend to choose gifts more tailored to their pasts. New parents and people in their 30's and 40''s often get gifts for their friends and families that have new children such as diaper bags and artwork, flip stool and colorful socks and clothing. Grandparents and great grandparents have their own ides of what's best for new moms, dads, and babies. The funny thing is what they select just may prove to be the most long lasting.
People over the age of 70 often see the bright colorful and creative new baby gifts that are in the market today and while they touch and feel them when in store they still gravitate to the things they relate to. These types of items are sterling silver baby cups, porringers, feeding spoons, white christening outfits and books. While some of these may seem boring to the more modern shoppers one has to wonder whether these actually will be the keepsakes the new family hold on to and the other more vibrant and trendy items will get thrown to the wayside in a matter of months. How many people still have a little silver spoon tucked away in a drawer from when they were little? A lot. Not too many people still have that crazy t shirt with silly words on it though.
While funny clothing and wild colors may seem like a great gift for a newborn and often it is, something can be said for the older generation and their choice selection of more tried and true baby gifts. They tend to select those items that can be saved for a long time and other items that can be passed down and don't go out of style. Personalized baby gifts such as embroidered blankets may be the type of gift that appeals to both generations so if you are not sure what to choose split the difference and go with something that can be saved as well as something that can be used today.
